Mirrors -Part II

I had a small mirror in the foyer. Now I wanted a full length mirror to replace it. I am a woman! Last thing before walking out, I like to check in the mirror. Summer or winter, going out or coming in, I want the mirror to approve what I look like before I go any further. I check myself without heels, with heels, without hat, with hat, without jewelry, with jewelry, without purse, with purse. The ensemble must look as if I am just stepping out of the pages of Vogue Magazine. I am realistic enough to know that at my height and age I will never really be that good, but hey . . .  for my age, I work to look as good as I can and still be age appropriate. For all that a tall mirror is essential.

Another problem, I don’t weigh the same as I used to when I was the right age for any cover of the Vogue magazine. I comfort myself by repeating, “I and not overweight, I am just undertall!” Works!! Most of the time . . .

I am not alone, my friends take a quick look in the mirror when they come in the front door. A nice reflection of yourself does a lot to lift up your mood. Conversely a bad reflection makes you go back to the closet and the makeup and jewelry drawer. So, being a good friend, for everyone’s sake, I decided it was time to get a good full length mirror!

So, I went mirror hunting! The mirror had to be framed nicely for it had a special place in the foyer. After a fair amount of hunting, I found one! The frame was just right, the height was just right for it reflected me perfectly in the store which was well lit. They agreed to place a hold on it for me for twenty-four hours, and I returned with my husband as quickly as I could.

Peter looked at it with the eye of an engineer. Peter looks at everything with the eye of an engineer or a scientist. He agreed this would be a good fit.

That very day, this lovely mirror hung in the foyer of our home, and I was happy. It had been a long wait! I found numerous reasons to walk by the mirror. It sounds shallow I know, but I was very happy with my purchase!

Next morning, I let the dog out in my PJ’s and glanced at myself fresh out of bed. I loved the reflection. The mirror loved me!! Then something occurred to me as I walked back into the bedroom and happened to glance in the mirror above my dresser . . . hmm? I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror above the sink . . . hmm?! Why didn’t these mirrors love me the same?!

Back and forth I went between the mirrors . . . not sure what I was seeing, I went into the spare room where I had stored two long mirrors for my shop to use for my customers. These were on stands. I brought them both in and put them beside the new mirror. Now I had three to compare and confirm.

“Peter! . . .  Peeter!! . . .  Peeeeeter!!! Can you come here please?!”

He hurried due to the urgency in my voice: “What is it?”

“Am I dreaming or does the new mirror show me skinnier than any other mirrors??!!”

The engineer did his thing, he has a very fine eye, and I trust it, though many times it is totally annoying for he can pick out every flaw.

“You are correct! This mirror is a little distorted.”

“Distorted??!! It is the only mirror in the house telling the truth!!”

Moment of truth . . . or a little self-deception!

“I like it!” it stays!” I smiled in the new mirror and put the other ones away. Who doesn’t want to look a little skinnier?!

Soon my daughter came to visit. We were all on the front patio. She went in and soon emerged smiling, “Mom, I love your new skinny-mirror.” It made her feel good too. That mirror has lied to every individual who has stood before it since. Most have not even known it to be a lie, because it is so subtle, yet it has made a lot of women happy!

A little lie doesn’t hurt anybody, does it!? Hmm??!!

Eve was told a “little lie” in the garden by the very smooth-talking Serpent.

Genesis 3: 1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Yes, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. 4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die: 5 For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat.

I want you to know this: Eve was deceived because she was ready to be deceived. Nothing was forced upon her. Already in her mind she had added to the real instructions given by the Creator. God never said they could not touch the tree, she added that, or perhaps Adam did, but it was not God. So she was ready to believe that this same God who had taken her out of her husband’s side and  placed her along with her husband Adam in this heaven-on-earth, EDEN, was somehow deliberately cheating them out of the biggest blessing yet! This Creator had given them the reins and the right-to-reign on everything they saw. They had been given the responsibility and know-how to grow it and enjoy it, but she wanted more.

Adam and Eve had the responsibility to protect Eden from the enemy, to keep it and expand it to take over the whole earth. Yet the Serpent showed up in the Garden. When the Serpent suggested in a subtle/seductive manner that God was keeping something from them, she bought it hook, line and sinker. This same God who came to walk with them in the cool of the day (meaning every evening) was not trustworthy enough, but the wily Serpent in the tree was!

Just a little doubt was planted, and now the fruit took on a far greater appeal than ever before. Having full rights to everything in the garden was not enough, the one tree and it’s fruit now weighed heavier in the balance than all else. Even her husband, who was with her, did not stop her but decided to join in her transgression. Adam knew full well that he bore the greater responsibility because the command of God was given to him before Eve was ever taken out of his side. That is why we are told that Eve was deceived but Adam ate with full knowledge.

1 Timothy 2: 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.(AKJV)

Result: THE FALL/THE CURSE which infected them with Sin, and all creation was cursed! Adam and Eve carried in their bodies all the future of humankind, all it’s potential now was infected as well. Their DNA contaminated, sin, disease, poverty, pain and suffering entered and here we are.

Eden was gone!

How expensive is a “little lie?” Look around in the world. How is your world? Wherever you live, is it all like the garden of Eden, or do you see evidence of the results of the “little lie” EVE believed? Whether you live in the slums, or the palace, or any place in between, the results of Sin are all around us.

Ultimately, this Sin is what cost the Son of God His very own Life. It was this “little lie” that led to the Cross. This “little lie” was so BIG, only the blood of Christ could take away the consequences of the havoc it wreaked.

Think about this! Perhaps the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, and the new life He offers will mean more to you if You really understand how much He loves you.

Nice post. I be taught one thing more challenging on completely different blogs everyday. It’s going to always be stimulating to learn content material from other writers and follow just a little one thing from their store. I’d choose to make use of some with the content material on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
