I want a Divorce!

Rev. Sudha Mehta©

The words are repeated often in many lives all around the world, everyday!

This one was different . . .

I first heard about it on the Fox News Channel and had to check it out. So I found it on the computer and read about this as it was reported on numerous sites. I suppose everyone seemed intrigued by the story.

A man from India filed a divorce petition . . . except he is single. This man, grown and in his late twenties, wants to divorce his parents!

Following is an excerpt:

“That’s (approximately) the logic of Raphael Samuel, a Mumbai business executive trying to sue his parents for creating him. He told the BBC that he’s been obsessed since he was a small child with the question of why his parents were entitled to create him without his consent. Because it’s not possible to ask children for consent before they are created, he argues, it’s wrong to have them at all,” says the report by Javier Zarracina/Vox.

Raphael is a believer in anti-natalism which essentially says that we should NOT have any babies for by having babies we move a person from a state of no-pain to a painful one. There is much more they say, having to do with earth and earth’s resources, but I find it to be just another form of nonsense coming from the vain philosophies of humans when they have discarded God as Creator.

The Bible says:

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.(ESV)

and . . .

Revelation 4:11 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (KJV)

Once you have discarded God, the mind opens up to a world of vain imaginings and invites in the Devil and his cohorts. Anti-natalism is just one more develish anti-God vain philosophy.

In this case, the parents of this man are both attorneys as well, which says that Raphael Samuel did not grow up deprived in any way materially, or any other way. I would guess he was given much of what he asked for, and perhaps he grew up spoiled. Samuel stated that since he did not consent to birth, he should not have been brought into this world.

Samuel’s mother is clearly a bright lawyer for she responded to the petition by saying if he could tell her how she could have gotten his consent, she would concede that she made a mistake: “Mum said she wished she had met me before I was born and that if she did, she definitely wouldn’t have had me,” Samuel told The BBC.

This grown man may be a bright professional coming from bright people, but he is a fool in the truest sense. He sees no role for God in his creation, much less care about what God has to say.

Exodus 20: 12 Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long on the land which the LORD your God gives you.(AKJV)

No, Samuel does not seem to want acknowledge God the Creator, nor desire the long life promised by the Creator on condition that he honor the mother and father that did bring him into this world.

If only he had chosen to keep his mouth closed . . . he might have been thought to be wise and intelligent:

Proverbs 17: 28 Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.(ESV)

King Solomon said in the Bible:

Proverbs 10: 1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father,
but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.(ESV)

and

Proverbs 20: 20 If one curses his father or his mother,
his lamp will be put out in utter darkness.(ESV)

Well, Samuel, looks like you are not making the grade.

I think of the man called Job in the Bible. A righteous and perfect man in God’s own estimation.

Job 1: 3 His estate included seven thousand sheep and goats, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large number of servants. Job was the greatest man among all the people of the east.(CSB)

Yet when trials hit, and he lost everything . . . I mean everything, he came to a place of cursing his birth. He too wished he had never been born.

Job 3: 1 After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. 2 And Job said: 3 “Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night that said, ‘A man is conceived.’

. . . .11 “Why did I not die at birth, come out from the womb and expire?12 Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should nurse?13 For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,(ESV)

I will concede that Job wished his mother had not birthed him either. So what is the difference between Job and Mr. Samuel?

Job was a righteous man, in a moment of desperation he wailed and wished he had never been born. Job lost his house/money/wealth/children in rapid succession within hours. While he was struggling to grasp this storm in his life, he also ended up with his body covered with boils and sores to the point where it was hard for him to even scratch with a broken shard of a pot. This was a story that went riches to rags in a heartbeat, but nothing makes up for losing your kids! Top that with pain racking your body and no escape.

Would you get discouraged and perhaps wish you had never been born?! To yet add more insult to injury, three friends showed up to comfort him. They were so dumbfounded that they sat for days without saying anything, and trust me this was the best thing they could have done. However, when they opened their mouths, all three had nothing but condemnation for him.

Here is also where Job was of a very different mindset from Samuel. Job did not reject God!! Job wanted God to grant him an audience. He wanted a face to face conversation with God, I am sure he wanted to take his complaint to the Highest Court and win his case that somehow all this had been unjust. God did show up. You can read the last few chapters (Job 38-Job 42) and see for yourself. The Lord showed up and called Job to account. I call these chapters “God’s resume'” that brought Job to his knee before the Almighty. He humbled himself, recognized his own lowly position, and because of this God exalted him by returning to him twice of everything that was lost. He was the richest before, now he was twice the richest. His three friends had to ask his forgiveness by God’s command, so there was total vindication for Job.

I suspect Samuel has no clue about real trials but has chosen to dishonor his mother and father by filing for a divorce. Then again, what can you expect from Samuel who has shown no fear of God!

I feel sorrow for Samuel, he has no appreciation or gratitude for all he has been blessed with in life. Then again, when people do not have love and a healthy fear of God, they tend to make deities of themselves. Self worship becomes the focus, which leads to nothing but selfishness.

God gave Adam and Eve the mandate to multiply. They did. Consider this: Sin entered and so mankind needed a second birth, this time to bring them back to right relationship with God and to have His Spirit dwell in them just as He did in the Garden of Eden.

Now here is a birth in which we do have a choice. We can choose to be born or not after all! The first birth allowed no choice, but the second birth does.

If you choose, you can be birthed again by the Spirit of God! By simply repenting of your sin, responding to His invitation, and asking Him to accept you as His child you are instantly Born Again and made new!!

I would say to Samuel: “Samuel, sorry you didn’t get a choice in the first birth . . . I recommend you try a second one. This one comes with a guarantee of eternal love, a place in God’s glorious heaven, a Father who will watch over you forever, a Brother Jesus who will never abandon or forsake you, and His Spirit to live within you to rejuvenate you and give you new life.”

He brought NEW LIFE then . . .

How about it, Samuel? How about it Rob, John, Jose’, Ali, Raja, Seema, Sarah, Jane, Emma, Mariam, Zahida, or just fill your name in the blank————–!? You are all welcome, no matter your background, nationality, or any thing else . . . you are welcome in His family . . . the more the merrier!!

PS: Do remember, honor your mother and father, for when you do, you receive the blessing of a long and prosperous life from God!

Just Shut Up!

Choices, choices!!
