When Dogs Didn’t Bark!

Exodus 11: 4 So Moses announced to Pharaoh, “This is what the LORD says: ‘About midnight I’m going throughout Egypt, 5 and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the slave girl who operates the hand mill, along with the firstborn of the animals. 6 There will be a great cry throughout the land of Egypt, like there has never been and never will be again. 7 But among the Israelis, from people to animals, not even a dog will bark (snarl (CSB)), so you may know that the LORD is distinguishing between the Egyptians and the Israelis.’(AKJV)

Recently, a young woman I know called me late at night asking for immediate, urgent prayer. She lives in the country on a small farm with her family.

The police had surrounded their home and property. There was a convict loose and the police believed he was hiding somewhere on the little farm. The police came well armed in a dozen or so cars, with dogs and bullhorns. Lights and sirens were enough to wake the whole neighborhood, but add to that the bullhorn calling the convict to come out of hiding, the trained police dogs barking/snarling and eager to be released . . . it had to be quite a terrifying scene! The family was told to keep the doors locked and to stay away from the doors and windows.

The farm is several acres, and there are other out-buildings for the various animals so any convict could find a hiding place. Her family has dogs in addition, several of them are in the house with them as family pets. Most are large and can be ferocious if the situation calls for it. They are protective of the family and are trained to guard. A stranger is sure to see a good set of teeth snarling when he approaches. You would not want to mess with them.

When I got a call, I prayed protection right away. I prayed the Lord would have His angels surround them and keep them safe. But the best protection I know to pray is the Covering of the Blood of Jesus for the family, their home, as well as the animals.

I could hear some of the commotion . . . she spoke in hushed tones and said she had to hangup but that she would text so it would not make noise. The children were hidden away but they were calm. She waited with her husband quietly.

As we texted back and forth she gave me updates as to what was going on, I stayed awake with her, standing firm in my prayer for the protection of Jesus’ Blood, and believing the angels of God had surrounded the house to keep everyone safe.

She told me of the warnings they gave to the convict as they readied the police dogs for release.

I texted: “Are your dogs going wild barking?”

A situation like this calls for dogs to bark . . .

She replied, “Unbelievable! They are all sleeping peacefully . . . snoring!!”

Yet, these watchful dogs were asleep, snoring! I knew my prayer had been answered!

The above Scripture from Exodus attests to that! Let me explain:

All of you around the world know that a dog will bark when there is the slightest movement/sound that is unfamiliar, even the rustle of leaves. Even while sleeping a dog is somehow alert to noise that is not “normal.” Regardless of breed or size, your dog will warn with barking/growling/snarling and running toward the sound. It may annoy you, wake up the baby asleep in the crib, or disturb your sleep, but the dog is created by God to raise the alarm if he senses danger to his family. You should be grateful for your dog’s watchfulness.

God’s most severe judgment came upon the land of Egypt because Pharoah refused to free the Israelites. The Israelites had been enslaved for hundreds of years, and their cries arose to God. Sending Moses as His representative The Most High God warned time after time and sent judgments with increasing intensity. They had already seen nine plagues come, and Pharoah heart only got harder. His heart was so stony that even the final warning that if he did not let the Israelites go, the firstborn of all, including his own house would die wasn’t enough for him to relent. Clearly this was a showdown in which he, a mere mortal thought he was a bigger God than The Most High!

As per instructions from God, Moses commanded his people, the Israelites to mark their doors for protection from Death. An innocent lamb was slaughtered by each family and it’s blood was applied to the doorposts and on the lintel. It was the blood of this innocent lamb that paid for protection of those inside the house. Death would not cross the blood line, but anyone outside the bloodline would suffer the loss of the first born in the family. This was true both for man and animal.

If you were a Israelite by birth but chose not to follow instructions, you were out and away from His protection. Yet, if you were Egyptian by birth and chose to turn to the God of the Israelies, and followed His instructions, you were protected. It wasn’t a question of being a Israelite by birth, it was a question of faith in the God of the Israelites.

This was the final plague. Death came to every home that night that did not have the blood covering, even Pharaoh’s palace, where his own firstborn son died.

It happened! But while terrifying wails of mothers and fathers filled the night in Egypt, and humans and animalst lost their firstborn children, . . . in the land of Goshen where the Israelites lived, not even a dog sensed any calamity! There was a hush in the land . . . the dogs lay quiet just as Moses had said!!

Ever since then Passover (Meaning Death Passes Over) is celebrated in every Jewish/Israeli home every Spring.

Centuries later, Jesus came as God’s perfect Sacrificial Passover Lamb!

John 1: 29 The next day John sees Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32 And John bore record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it stayed on him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. 34 And I saw, and bore record that this is the Son of God.(AKJV)

God Himself came to Earth in the body of a Human, offered Himself as the Sacrificial Passover Lamb and died on the Cross, shedding His Own Blood to pay the full penalty of the sins of all mankind.

On the night of Passover, at the last supper before He was arrested to be crucified the next morning, Jesus said:

John 14: 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.(NKJV)

And:

John 14: 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.(NKJV)

The two . . . your obedience and His giving you what you desire go hand in hand.

The next morning His Blood was shed as our Passover Lamb, removing once for all the need for animal sacrifice, and opening the door to Eternal Life for us. By Faith, since that time His Blood covers us with His protection. It is by Faith in Him, not by our works.

This was no ordinary blood, this was Precious Blood shed to bring us Life Eternal, as well as protection/healing simply by faith in Him. Death passes over us when we are covered by this Precious Blood, just as it passed over the Hebrews on that fateful night in Egypt. It does not mean, I will not experience death on this earth, it does mean that even in death I win for I go to Heaven, my eternal home where I am alive.

Today, be it Covid 19 or any other trial in the World . . .  I rest in this Peace He has given to me:

Romans 8: 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. . . 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (NKJV)

You can appropriate the same protection as the Israelites did in Exodus. Ask by faith for protection of Jesus’ Blood for your self and your household. If you are His child by faith, you can seek His protection.

Romans 8: 15  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God . . . (NKJV)

Now back to my original story:

At this young family’s house the drama unfolded and concluded without any harm to anyone. Within a couple of hours the police apprehended the convict. He was arrested without incident. The police cars were gone with the convict, the bullhorns and the well-trained canines. The quiet of the night settled in and everybody rested after all that excitement.

The dogs were none the wiser the next morning . . . they heard nothing . . . saw nothing! Supernatural peace . . . God saw to it!!

John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. (BSB)

My friend, do you want this peace??
