Mark 12: 28 And one of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “What commandment is the foremost of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ 31 “The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”(ASV)
While I am doing my best to grow in the first commandment, I am much better at the second one. Well . . . sort of! I am quite good at loving myself . . . it is the part about loving my neighbor that I haven’t quite gotten to.
I figure in order to love my neighbor as myself, I must get even better at loving myself! Makes sense right?!
So I thought it would be good to start having a combo-commandment room in our new home where both commandments could be combined! I am so smart!!
Jesus said in:
Matt 6: But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.(AKJ)
I had my husband design a wonderful huge walk-in closet with ten foot ceilings for me. It is a lovely closet designed to hold my yarn collection. Shelves line the closet from bottom to top. I have to use a ladder (a very pretty ladder I found in a specialty store) to reach the high shelves. I have loved the scent of yarn since I was a little girl. So, I please my senses, I love to look, touch, smell, design projects, dream of designing more projects in this closet. I love to work on, my yarn stash arranging and rearranging by color, by weight, by content . . . ii is easy to spend hours in that room. Everyone is impressed when they see it. I call it my Meditation Closet. The closet is perfect for loving the Lord with all my heart while I meditate (Sudha Style) on my huge yarn collection.
I have other walk-in closets for my clothes, shoes and jewelry where I pretty much do the same.
Then, in order to continue to grow and to learn to love myself, I added an “I Love Me Wall” in my office, on this wall are displayed my degrees, diplomas, and yes, the one plaque I got at university where I was picked as a finalist for “Woman of the Year Award.” I was one of five! It matters!! Well, since I do love the Lord, I have a beautiful wall of Cherry wood shelves custom made for books about Him, directly or indirectly. It is an impressive collection. I arrange the books by subject. then sometimes, I like to change the look and place them by height or the color of the jacket. I also give away a lot to a local library when I run out of room, for I can’t stop buying. If a title is appealing, it’s coming home. I especially like to get books on how to improve myself, it is part of learning to love myself . . . how else will I ever get to learn to love my neighbor! If I like the size or color, if is aesthetically appealing, it’s coming home. Most of my reading time is spent on the computer, but what would an office be if it didn’t have books?
In my exercise room, (doesn’t everyone have one?) I have a nice “Selfie” wall. Kim Kardashian has a book called “Selfish” that contains her best selfies, I can at least have a wall of them. I know many people that have a Selfie wall on Facebook, I may work on that once I get the pouty look perfected. That is really a tough one for me. Practice, Sudha, practice! There are pictures of my kids and grandkids on my Selfie wall, but only those that have me in them, and if I don’t look good the picture is discarded.
My husband says all my “I Love Me” practice, spills over into the rest of the house, but hey, if I am to love myself, then shouldn’t I practice all over? He can help “pick up.”
My neighbor needed help today, she fell and needed a ride to the ER, but I am busy practicing my “pout.”
A lady from church called for prayer, I told her I would and will . . . later!
My friend texted and asked me to pray for her lost cat to find her way home and I thought, “How rude, I am trying to take a beauty-rest here!”
My son called and asked if I could pickup my grandson from school. “Sure thing, but you owe me big time!” I said.
People, just leave me alone! I can’t be doing things for you all, I first need to “Love myself.”
I love the Lord, I have asked him into my heart. I think he listened and came, but I don’t know when I last saw or heard from him. where was I when we talked, . .. let me think, hmm, I don’t remember! Lord . . . where are you?! I really miss you, jesus, don’t you know that?!
I have to have time with my Jesus! I know, I will go to my meditation room, the yarn is soothing, and I will rest while I meditate!
